(Note: I'm aware my Photobucket-hosted images have been broken for a long time now. When I get access to either my backed-up files on my external hard drive OR my Photobucket account, I will try to fix them.)

Anyway, this is a super hasty tutorial thrown together to explain how to use GIMP to make tileable patterns.

Tutorial for these two icons:

Intro:
[livejournal.com profile] erzsebet requested tutorials on black & white Disney icons and contrasts so I'll walk through these two icons, focusing on the adjustments to colors/values. (I guess the secret is levels and light blobs!)

Tools:
I use GIMP, curves, levels, and GIMP's desaturation tool (which differs from other programs). With some work, should be translatable.

Note:
[livejournal.com profile] twinstrike requested a tutorial for this Brave icon over at [livejournal.com profile] icon_talk's Ask the Maker meme. :)

Tools:
I use GIMP, layer masks, and curves. Pretty easily translatable to other programs.

Intro:
So! This is my first tutorial, as requested by [livejournal.com profile] dottedcherrypie. :D It's pretty representative of my fallback coloring method: Curves + Layer Masks. :P

Tools:
GIMP is recommended for this tutorial. It's a free art program that I love. :) You could also use PSP or PS, but you might need to make some adjustments. Whatever program you use, you'll need to be able to do Curves and Layer Masks.
